Frequently asked questions

My child was registered last session, do I need to register again?
  • Yes, registration is needed for every new session.

What safety precautions are you taking in wake of COVID-19?
  • We are following USTA safety guidelines

What does my child need to bring to tennis?
  • A tennis racquet, water bottle, sunscreen, and a hat in warmer months is all that is needed. If a student forgets their tennis racquet, we have some of various sizes that can be borrowed based on availability.

When should my child arrive to tennis and when should I pick them up?
  • Having children arrive five minutes before the start of class is ideal. Picking your child up promptly at the end of the class or lesson is important as our instructors often have other lessons and commitments.

Why does my child's court placement vary by class day or session?
  • Student placement is based on the current skill level of each player in relation to who registers for each class which varies by class day and session.
  • For example, a student can be placed on court two on one class day or session and court three on another class day or session, due to more experienced students registering for that particular class day or session vs. a previous day or session.
  • Our continued goal is for students to be placed where they have an opportunity to feel successful with room to learn and grow.
When should I pay?
  • In order to reserve a spot, please register as soon as possible. Many of our sessions have sold out.

Who will my child be paired with in their group?
  • Children are paired with other children close in level of tennis experience.

What if it rains?
  • In the event of inclement weather, an email will be sent to notify parents of the cancellation of class by 2:30 p.m. of the class day. A make-up class will be offered on a specific Friday indicated in the email.

Where is the best place to buy or demo a new tennis racquet?
  • Westwood Sports located at 11629 Iberia Place, Suite A, San Diego, CA 92128 (858) 487-2141
  • Online at racquetdepot.com

Who do your recommend for tennis racquet stringing?
  • Westwood Sports located at 11629 Iberia Place, Suite A, San Diego, CA 92128 (858) 487-2141

Are there make-up classes if my child misses a class?
  • In order to keep the overall price of tennis classes to a minimum of our maximum 6:1 student to staff ratio, there are no make-up classes offered at this time.

How many classes a week do your recommend my child should take?
  • Based on past student success, if your child is looking to play tennis at a  recreational level or is new to the sport, attending class once or twice a week is recommended.
  • If your child is looking to possibly play high school tennis, attending class at a minimum of two to three times a week is recommended.
  • If your child is looking to possibly play collegiate tennis, supplementing three group classes per week with private or semiprivate lessons will always speed up the rate of improvement and prepare them for that level of play.
